Uber/Lyft Now Available to Cruisers Everywhere in South Florida

Posted May 11th, 2016 in news by Admin

It’s great news for anyone looking to get from the airport (or really any location) to cruise ports in south Florida.

As of May 2016, the Miami-Dade County Commission voted to legalize ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft.

If you had already been using Uber and Lyft to get from the Miami airport to the cruise port, you’re not alone. It’s a popular and cheap way to get back and forth. But what you may not have realized is that the services were actually operating illegally in the county. According to the South Florida Business Journal, the companies saw roughly $4 million in fines.

Now the companies have the peace of mind to operate legally in Miami-Dade.

That’s only the first part of the story, however.

In late 2015, Broward County (where Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is located) saw Uber and Lyft return to the area. The companies had left due to rules and regulations it felt were too tight. However, strong public demand hounded county commissioners, according to After loosening the rules, the ride-share companies returned.

As a result, cruise passengers anywhere in southern Florida can use the services to get back and forth between home, hotel, airport, or anywhere else and the cruise ports. We have updated service maps below.

So why should you care? As a cruise passenger, using services like Uber and Lyft can save you significant money. The rides are generally cheaper than traditional cabs, and most people report better service and quicker pick-up times. In short, it’s a much easier way to get to the port.
