Using Uber & Lyft to get to the Tampa Cruise Port

Headed for a cruise from the Port of Tampa Bay? Then you might be wondering just exactly how to get to the port.

For years the only convenient option you had (other than driving yourself) was to take a taxi. Depending on your location within the city, this could take awhile to be picked up and be somewhat expensive. If you were being picked up from the airport then you could expect to pay between $15-$25 to get to the port just nine miles away. Longer distances could see the prices increase dramatically.

However, the Tampa Bay area now has the services of Uber and Lyft available. These services allow people to use their own personal automobiles to provide rides in the area. The level of service is consistently better than a taxi (you usually only have to wait a few minutes for a ride) and at a much cheaper price. As a result, Uber and Lyft are gaining in popularity among people headed to the cruise port, especially since they can be called upon everywhere from St. Pete to Clearwater and surrounding areas.

If you are unfamiliar with companies like Uber and Lyft, here’s how they work. First, you download the app to your smartphone, setting up and account and payment information. When you are ready for a ride, you simply open the app and select where you want to go. A nearby driver will confirm your pick up and arrive shortly. After the ride, you’ll rate the driver through the app and also confirm payment through your credit card. No money changes hands, it’s all through the phone app.

Passengers like Uber and Lyft because they offer an overall better experience than traditional taxis at a lower price. How much lower? Well, as we’ve said, from the airport you can expect to pay about $25 to get from the downtown Tampa area where the cruise port is. Uber and Lyft estimated prices are much lower:
